Big hullo to all you lovely bloggy types out there.
I have a review of You at Melusine and my poem "Breathing Apparatus" is up at Camroc Press Review. Very big thanks to Janelle and Barry.
Other than that I am adapting one of my novels into a screenplay and have thirty minutes screen time written so far. I'm also working on another screenplay/novel in tandem. It's a very enlightening process. I am amazed at how different the same story appears on the page and I now have so much respect for screenwriters! Next time I go see a film adaptation of a novel I will not grumble that it is not true to the book!
I am very much writing with "L" plates at the moment but hopefully this can be a way to start earning from my writing. And the change in perspective can only be good for all my writing.
I am very excited about all the new things I'm learning and feeling very positive. Well, all that's left now is for you to tell me what you're all up to?
Enjoyed both the poems and the review - that's all very exciting stuff Rachel - very excited for you!
ReplyDeleteHehe - thanks, Andrea!
ReplyDeleteWoo, love that poem - read it here, didn't I?
ReplyDeleteAnd HUGE THANKS for the review :) How I LOVE intelligent review(er)s.
What am I up to? Counting down the days 'til Baby goes to creche for 3 mornings a week so I can finish a story I started 17 months ago. And one I started recently. Itching to get into both. 10 days to go!
Very brave of you to try something so different, Rachel. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteNuala - you're most welcome! How I love intelligent writers(ing)..erm..well, it's easy to write intelligently about intelligent writing!
ReplyDelete!7 months ago!!? That's patience! Here's to creches!
Donna - thanks. I have had an interest in trying screenwriting for a while but I was put off by remebering how tedious writing plays was as a teenager (used to write them for my highschool friends to perform in drama or assembly!), but with the software available now I had no excuse not to give it a try. And there's such a buzz about screenwritng. Also it's helpful to see the novel reduced to plet and it's creative to adapt internal thought to visual/dialogue exposition...so much...really another blog post.
ReplyDeleteThanks again.
What am I up to? Being overphased by decisions..?

I love those poems of yours. They are so unexpected and they make me smile. And screenplay writing? That must be different. But I do think it is always more exciting (although more difficult) when there are more rules and limitations, isn't it? Good luck with this new adventure (I'm sure you'll do exceptionally well, like with everything else).
ReplyDeleteA screenplay! I have heard that reducing a novel to dialogue only can reveal nuances of character and situation that full prose doesn't. Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteRachel - here's what I do: delegate what you can and then do the thing which absolutely must be done and let the other things prioritise themselves!
ReplyDeleteIt's the only way forward. There's no such thing as failure, only achievements waiting to happen (in an orderly queue is handy but not essential).
Best of luck with your decision making!
Lori - I am enjoying the limitations of it and even with them it feels very freeing in a lot of ways. So far, with the novel I'm adapting, I'm discovering I am a very visual writer and I move my characters like actors anyhow, so it's not been too difficult from that aspect, but there are devices I use in novel writing which simply do not carry across to screen so it's all change there - but good.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Thomas - it is a great exercise for seeing how well your characters are crafted! I recommend it!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Whoo Hoo! Particularly liked "Tumbling". Congratulations.
ReplyDelete2 launches for me of the new book "Venti". Plus the 50 hours I need to produce it before the first one!
Thanks, Titus!
ReplyDeleteHa - good luck with that - tell me, will you get any help from the pharty power duo?!
:)
With all those projects you deserve much success.
ReplyDeleteExcellent news you are working on a screenplay, Rachel! And I stopped by Camroc to read your poems - wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe news from here is mostly to do with business - we're receiving the last of our seasonal stock from Germany and the Czech Republic, so taking hundred of product shots and editing the images for the website. September through December is our busiest time of the year, so we're gearing up, happily. Working with my daughter is a joy and we both love what we do, so these are happy days.
Dave - thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteGW - what's your business? How rare to have a job you love working with people you love.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading the poem - pleased you liked it.
