The poem is absolutely stunning, Rachel! Thank you. After Blake, indeed. I love the sense that the photo could be anywhere in the English-speaking world. Kind of "Wait, WHERE is this exactly?"
Kudoes to your barkeeper, even though I need to stay out of the saloon.
Thank you, Dominic - I've "done" most of the Norton Anthology! Some more successfully than others, admittedly! I like the Romantics best, though - shared aims, perhaps. I can but aspire. Most will stay in the file!
Thank you, JoAnne - it's one of those poems where you wish the original had been much longer, but the restriction actually forces you to be more direct.
Thank you, Leslie - that's exactly what I was hoping - it isn't a specific dig (and dig is precicely what I am doing with poems in the collection this is part of) at Auckland, it is a flag at the pride of the English speaking world - so accomplished and yet - oops, why no [ramps]?

I'm a strictly fruit juice girl myself, Les - have an OJ on me!
Like it. Dylan Thomas, Blake... Whose next?
ReplyDeleteKnock-out, Rachel. Unexpected movement in the poem, I liked the tone very much and a great two final lines.

Sounds exotic. Now I have to pull out my dusty Blake poetry volume to be able to appreciate the connection. Don't you put me to work?
ReplyDeleteI remain in total awe of your talent with words, Rachel.
ReplyDeleteLori - I always look forward to your comments - "exotic" - I love it!
ReplyDeleteDonna - *blush* that's a lovely compliment - thank you!
ReplyDeleteNice. Your work just keeps getting better, more sparse and more crisp. Thank you, peace,
ReplyDeleteDiane
