I sketched my mother some years back, the drawing has been the foundation of many other pieces and experiments including this.
Think I've got VIP membership now, at the Camel Saloon - else escorted off the premises for loitering! Thank you, Russell Streur.
Beautiful sketch AND poem, Rachel ~ the sting of the nettles, indeed.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right where you belong at The Camel Saloon!
I like the painting, a lightness of colour/touch, very well drawn - a delicate moment captured.
ReplyDeleteMy sketches are horrific, one day I'll post some.
Been I will since I heard from you.
Hope New Zealand is recovering from the quake.
Keep up the goood brush work.
McGuire.
That poem oddly reminds me of my childhood too. Isn't that strange? I looove the painting. It relaxes me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Les,
ReplyDeleteand yes, I'm really happy and grateful to have made a connection with the Saloon.
Hey McGuire,
ReplyDeletegood to see you here - I've not been getting about much.
Thanks.
Off to a fundraiser for the quake this eve - hopefully Christchurch can recover at least physically reasonably quickly - though with aftershocks it looks to be a slow and dangerous process.
Lori -
ReplyDeleteI can see how working the land might evoke Romania - your grandparents?
I'm glad the picture relaxes you - that's lovely, though it did nothing to put me to sleep when I posted this at 4am!
Love the lay-over of colors and moods in that sketch.
ReplyDeleteThe poem also paints an accurate picture of mood and memory. Nice work.
Hey Kass, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad you liked these pieces.
Wonderfully sensitive and stated with great clarity. You should be very proud of it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your support, Dave - much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely piece of art and a beautiful poem, too. Do you dabble in art a lot? I studied art at university. Though I specialised in sculpture, I adored drawing and painting, too. Must get creative with my sketching pencils again sometime soon! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much - I paint a lot and studied art, then design, then ceramics, then art/sculpture - I'd love to see some of your art work!
