Two good

for presenting me with this fabulous award!
It's completely spiffing to receive any validation whatsoever and it's particularly lovely coming from someone as talented as Deirdra. Please do check out her blog. She has some wonderful interviews among other treats.

In other exciting news, I have two poems in Horizon Review. My sincere gratitude to Katy Evans-Bush for all her hard work and for being such a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Katy.

congrats on both counts! I also love your author photo, though I think you may have posted that one before? in any case it and the poems are wonderful. Love the playful use of language and dialects.

Thanks, Andrea! I love how in my dialect height and night don't rhyme!
The photo's rattling around on the blog somewhere, yes - I'm either very serious looking or big cheesy grinning! I'm glad you enjoyed the poems.

Oh, Rae, I am having an emotional reaction of amazing intensity. First I giggled and thought "Yep, Rae has THAT award coming, in spades." Then I clicked on the link to your poems. Your photo popped up. It's the first time I've ever seen your face clearly. It floored me, and I teared up, to see the face I never knew on the friend I immediately knew. So congratulations on the well-deserved award. I will read the poems tomorrow and gather myself for comment. I thank you SO for your visit/comment at my place today. Love you, dear Rae.

Oh, Les - people often cry when they see me!

But, seriously now, I am touched and it's good you got to know me first, I think, before you saw my mush because all too often people judge me before they get to know me based on how I look. I'm not writing proper sentences today but i know you'll understand me. I'm very grateful to have met you on the net, too, and enriched for it.

Thank you

A double whammy here, Rachel! I love the two 'Horizon' poems. Such a powerful and audible pair of voices. And well done with 'Horizon' too - one of the best. (I've not submitted to it thus far. I'm currently falling at much lower fences!)

Cheers, love, t'other Rachel x

Dick - anyone who says "double whammy" is a friend of mine! Love that phrase. Of course, where I'm from, whammy means unwell as well as a blow..I digress...thank you. I'm definitely getting more confident and with that comes risk taking - I figure, falling on your arse hurts just as much - whether it's from a high or low fence.

I'm big on visualising techniques, too. Aim higher - live it in your head - imagine the negative and positive outcomes of that experience then go for it. Don't give up till you get it.
If you don't believe in yourself no one else will.

All trite sounding but results yielding.

I aspire to your poetry, Dick - apologies for giving you the full ramble here!

Been reading too much positive psychology.

Short version: thank you!

Yay! I liked the poems too, still getting my head around them, actually. A strange appeal - disoncerting, yet they pull you in. Well done!

You do like to put your readers to work, don't you? I always need to read your poems two times at least to get their whole power. If I ever get it all. Probably not. But when I do, it's very satisfying. And very, very, very heart breaking. Beautiful work, Rachel, you deserve all the awards coming your way. And I have to agree, that picture of you is very powerful too. You look so beautiful and so mysterious. Perfect writer's portrait.

JoAnne, thank you - I really value your opiniions!

Lori - I do hope there's sufficient reward for the readers!
Thank you!
I'm always trying new approaches but with that comes higher odds of messing up.

As for the pic - BLUSH! x

Guttersnipe, in particular, is great:) Congratulations on the award too.

Rachel Fenton said...

Thanks, Thomas - I figured that if I'm making the reader work I should reward them with an entertaining narrative. Cheers again.

OK, I stopped blubbering and read the poems. What masterful use of dialect and imagery! Yet my latest sincere tip of the hat to you, Word Woman.

Les - I never know how to respond to such compliments and I hope not to have offended by my snailing away but I thank you for your continued support and dread the day I fall short.

Great juicy poems to read and reread! Good to see your photo - I've been trying to choose a passable for a publication and it's more gruelling than the writing!

Penny said...

Congratulations, twice over! Well deserved, I'm off to find the poems.

Cat - I thought the photograph of you on the recent blog interview you gave was gorgeous!

It's funny how we can put across our innermost workings in the form of a text yet are flustered by the thought of our outward appearance being made public...

Thanks x

Rachel Fenton said...

Thank you, Penny. I hope you enjoy them x

Rachel Fenton said...

Lewis, did you decide not to comment or not to wish me well? By my interpretation you failed on both counts. But I'm happy you stopped by and gave me something to think about.

I wish you much happiness and creative fulfilment :)
