I made it to the longlist of this year's Fish Flash Fiction Competition, along with Alison Moore.

Many congratulations, Rachel! Fish is highly contested (not sure that's entirely the phrase I'm looking for, but I mean there are always hundreds of entries), so getting noticed among that lot is a great achievement.

And, hey, if a longlisting's good enough for a Booker shortlistee...

Thanks, Dan! Fish get entries into he thousands - must check what the figure was for this comp - so this longlisting can at least provide a benchmark for the quality of my writing. It's a story I've had for years, too, so I'm really happy it got somewhere.

I'm not sure Moore will be as pleased as I am with the longlisting, but I hope she's not offended my me pleased-ness!
