Wellington books

I'm delighted to be taking part in Wellington City Libraries Comicfest 2015 along with Indira Neville and Sarah Laing, to discuss Three Words; an anthology of Aotearoa Women's Comics and Cartoons we are co-editing.

We'll be taking part in a panel discussion, from 1-2pm on Saturday 2 May, to talk about women's comics and the genesis of the Three Words book, moderated by Pikitia Press' Matt Emery.

August, it seems, is almost over and I haven't blogged since being stunned in July by discovering I made the final of the Dundee International Book Prize.

But I want to take a moment to draw your attention to a very interesting chap called David Thomsen, who I met way back in May, at the Wellington City Libraries Comicfest Panel Discussion (which I blogged about here). 

 I suspect Grant Buist karate chopped off David Thomsen's fingers just prior to this photograph being taken.

David is the creative mastermind behind the most intriguing blog Three If By Murder, where, in a series of innovative animations, he answers questions posted by the public. If by chance you lean towards the surreal and have three minutes to spare, it won't kill you to check out one of his films, or send him a question.

I had an excellent time at the Wellington City Libraries #Comicfest 2014 Panel Discussion.

Guest speakers were Jitterati and Brunswick cartoonist and playwright Grant Buist, American Captain and Indie comics creator Robyn Kenealy, and Shaolin Burning and Dharma Punks author Ant Sang.

 Grant Buist tells the audience: "If you remember this, you are old"!

Highlights for me included Grant Buist's answer to this question:

"Are there any other New Zealand comic artists that you particularly admire?"

"I'm reading a lot of the Auckland diary comic artist Rachel Jones, who's very good."

Paula Green will be pleased to know Rachel Jones has made another appearance. Dylan Horrocks may be less pleased! I, however, am glad Rae Joyce also got a fond mention -- she's working on a comic about Rachel Jones as I type. Watch this space.
